Why Reading Glutton?

I read a lot of books. But like a hungry man at a fine restaurant, I usually don't spend much time savoring the words and ideas. Not that I would have anything great or profound to say or think, but maybe I can offer a tidbit of insight or interest to what I read for your benefit. My interests range pretty widely, so there's no telling what will end up here. I am a Christian, a dad, a libertarian, a seminary graduate, a former teacher, a financial professional, and a lover of a good story. I guess most of what I read will be somehow connected to one or more of those categories, but not necessarily. Drop me a line.

Besides books I just feel like reading, I also write blogs for Blogging for Books, which is sponsored by Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers, and post for Tyndale's blog network.  I also get books from NetGalley for review.  It would help me out if you rate my reviews on Waterbrook's site.  Thanks for reading!

  1. Dear Paul,

I saw that you semi-frequently write reviews on books within the Evangelism category on Amazon.

My father wrote a book titled, Forgive Me For Waiting So Long To Tell You This. This little book was written for Christians to give to their unsaved friends and family. Readers are provoked to think about themselves, Jesus Christ, and their eternal destiny.

We've recently made the e-book version perma-free on Amazon in hopes that Christians can "loan" it to their loved ones providing a respectful and non-confrontational way to share their faith.

Could I mail you a physical copy of the book to read and potentially review on Amazon?

Thank you and May God bless you!

  4. Hi Paul -

You appear to be a fan of Carl Hiaasen and his menagerie of quirky characters, and in my book, that's a heck of an endorsement. I’ve just published the third book in my Fish Fishbein Adventures in la-La Land series and would love it if you could give it a read and post a review.
It’s a fast-paced, drop-dead funny look at L.A., the entertainment industry and murder titled Chump Change. Here’s the back cover blurb so you can see a little more about the book:

    “Crooked TV preachers.
    Psycho showbiz moms.
    Naked Roman zombies.
Porn stars who talk like Colonel Klink.

    You gotta love this town.

You think it’s easy being the Bounty Hunter and Repo Guy to the Stars? Just talk to “Fish” Fishbein. If he isn’t trying to round up a heavily lubricated ex-rocker, he’s flying down the freeway in a repoed Wiener Mobile, chased by the pistol-packing deadbeat who owns it.
A bail bondsman hires him to track down a crew of unwise guys who blew off their court date to snatch L.A.’s monthly parking meter take -- 300 grand in quarters. Then they start dropping like flies. And Fish has to catch the killer.
Maybe it’s the city’s armed and dangerous Parking Meter Czar. Or his brother-in-law, a corrupt televangelist who needs some serious coin to bankroll his foray into Bible-based porn. Or the Rev’s wife and co-minister, who’s bat-shit crazy about toddler beauty pageants. Or, it just might be the defrocked talent agent who’s dying to make Fish a reality TV star.
With more than seven tons of quarters at stake, bodies are dropping faster than turn-downs on America’s Got Talent. And if Fish and his hog-riding buds, Kenny and Einstein, don’t nab the killer in a hurry, they could get eliminated themselves.
Chump Change is author Jeff Lee’s third book in his Adventures in La-La Land series, following The Ladies Temperance Club’s Farewell Tour and Hair of the Dog. If you enjoy the whacko characters, situations and fast pace that Janet Evanovich, Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard bring to the party, check out all of Fish Fishbein’s big adventures.

WARNING: Contains some of the most hysterical explicit sex scenes ever written.”

If you’re interested, I’d be happy to send you a Kindle doc of the book, or a PDF ARC for your review. Your choice.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

  5. Hi Paul,

I saw a lot of in-depth children's book reviews on your Amazon profile. Would you care to read and possibly review a fun ebook for 9 to 12 year old readers? I consider the responsibility of giving kids the right influence and wrote this series to be as educational as it is entertaining.

  6. Hi Paul,

I noticed that you reviewed the book, "The Conservatarian Manifesto." Myself and others (going by the name of "WE") have written a book that is similar to that, but with a somewhat different take on how to revive limited government and conservative values. We would love to send you a free copy in hopes that you would consider reviewing our book as well.

My name is J.G. Maggio, and the book we want to send is titled "The (First) 4 Maxims of Social Conservatism." You can find a link to it here: http://www.amazon.com/First-Maxims-Social-Conservatism-ebook/dp/B00XZN6MYW/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1444597877&sr=1-1&keywords=the+first+4+maxims+of+social+conservatism.

The goal of our book is to reach young people, by showing them the scientific, logical and historical arguments that underlay traditional moral values. These arguments are rarely if ever discussed in the mainstream media, of course.

We'd be glad to send you a digital copy if you would like.

Thanks, J.G. Maggio (member of "WE")

  7. Dear Paul,

After looking over your wonderful reviews at Amazon.com, I wanted to reach out and ask if you might be willing to consider writing a review for my relaxing music CD "Feast of Joy and Love."

I am a Grammy winning composer in the New Age genre (2014 Grammy win for "Best New Age Album.")

May I send you a digital download or autographed copy of my CD "Feast of Joy and Love?" I would very much like to share it with you, if that would be okay. If you would prefer an autographed copy, I would just need your mailing address to get that out to you. Otherwise, I can send you a link to download the album.

Here is where the album appears on Amazon.com:

Thank you so very much for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,
    Laura Sullivan

  8. Dear Paul, greetings from Calgary, Alberta Canada. :)

Do you review Christian children's books?

I have written an award winning, inspirational fish "tail" based on a true story of my youth growing up on a lake. It is called "The Great Carp Escape".
My book is also a quiet allegory of the Gospel for those who can see it.

Would be pleased to send you a copy of my story in exchange for a review on Amazon?

Thank you so much for your consideration.

    Cheers and blessings,

  10. Paul,

I was perusing books to read when I saw your review on the novel, The Eighth Day, by Joseph John (a book I subsequently purchased).

Since this book is in the genre I write in, I thought I may as well see if you'd be willing to review my 2nd novel, Fallen Sun.

Here are some specifics on it.

    Title - Fallen Sun
    Amazon link - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E4U2YFU
    Page Count - 358
    Author - Harule Stokes (me)
    Genre - Science Fiction

If you're interested in reviewing, just reply to this email with the best format for you to read in.

    Many Blessings,
    Harule Stokes

  11. Paul,

You reviewed my novel, The Eighth Day, in April of last year. First of all, thank you again for the kind words and great review.

I am preparing to launch my second novel, Democracy Inc, on December 8th of this year. I was wondering if you'd be up for another advanced review copy (digital) in exchange for an honest review?

Here's the Goodreads link if you're interested in learning more: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36106373-democracy-inc

If not, I would perfectly understand. Either way, thank you so much for your time.

    Best Regards, Joe

  14. Hi!
I recently published a book, I Had A Secret For Seventeen Years. This is the story of my life, the abortion I had at 16 years old, the impact it had on me, and how God has used it for good. I saw that you have reviewed several books. I would be honored if you would consider reading and reviewing my book.

If you'd like to see the book or read more about it, here's the link on amazon,
